PROVENANCE FIRST

Rights are part
of the listening experience.

“Public domain composition” is only the beginning. Every scan, edition, transcription, arrangement, recording, and video has its own story.

01

Rights by asset

A composition or traditional melody, printed edition, scan, MusicXML file, new arrangement, rendered recording, and video may all carry different rights statuses. OpenScore records provenance and license information at the asset level.

02

Review status

AI-converted notation and generated audio distinguish automated technical QA from human score and listening review. “Technical QA passed” is not the same as editorial approval or legal review.

03

Before publication

Public-domain status can vary by jurisdiction. Before broad release, source-scan terms, edition history, sample-library licenses, and every newly created asset should receive a final human review.
